A taxonomic rearrangement of Polygonum romanum Jacq. is proposed.Three taxa have been recognized at a subspecific rank: Polygonum romanum Jacq. subsp. romanum from C. and S. ltaly, P. romanum Jacq. subsp. gallicum (Raffaelli) Raffaelli & Villar, com. & stato nov., from S. France (Languedoc) and P. romanum Jacq. subsp. balearicum Raffaelli & Villar, subsp. nov., from Mallorca (Baleares, Spain).
